Preparing for and applying to medical school is a long road. Whenever in the process you contact me, I’ll meet you where you are and guide you to maximizing your prospects for success. The first step is always an Assessment, where we’ll look at your transcripts, scores if you have them yet, and all of your activities thus far, medical and non-medical. We’ll evaluate where you’re strong and make plans for anything more you might do to maximize your potential.
Starting the winter of the year you want to apply, we’ll begin the Writing Work – talking, refining, enabling you to present yourself authentically and compellingly when Primary applications open in the spring and through the onslaught of Secondaries in summer. August is time for interview preparation and practice. The fall is dominated by waiting in this hurry-up-and-wait process. This can be the hardest part for many aspiring premeds, but you’ll have plenty of support. I stay in your corner to keep up with developments, strategize as needed, and cheer on your success!!!

I can guide you in creating a study plan and locating resources to help implement it, and refer you to tested, top-notch MCAT tutors if that is part of the plan. I hope InsightMed will one day offer MCAT tutoring, but that is not available at this time.

I would love to help with your Personal Statement, and all your essays! You can choose from three ways to get help: As part of the Comprehensive package, you’ll receive guidance in brainstorming, developing, refining, and perfecting your Personal Statement, Most Meaningful essays (for MD), and Activities (they are just as important as the others), as well as a pre-writing system and editing help on your Secondaries. You can also receive expert assistance on any portion of the application on an hourly basis. Finally, If you have a completed Personal Statement draft and want feedback, that is available as a stand-alone service.

Yes, we can help prepare you for the all-important interviews! We’ll go over all the things you need to do to prepare, plus address the “non-cognitive” aspects of the process – managing nerves, presenting yourself calmly and confidently. Finally, you’ll be offered a mock interview with an attending at an Ivy-League hospital, complete with video and his expert feedback. Students report he offers very helpful advice! (He also happens to be my husband ; ) And yes, we help with lists, too. List building for medical school is different from college, and more of the work and decisions falls on the student. We’ll tell you everything you need to know, including how many schools to apply to and how to decide which ones.

Medical school applicants are adults, aspiring to a career that holds life and death in its hands. They absolutely must be independent and self-reliant. At the same time, their family members have watched them work so hard for so long, and supported them emotionally and financially. Their interest doesn’t stop now! While most med school advisors won’t speak with families, I’m happy to be in touch as needed and give them a window into the process. I’ll communicate the ways to best support applicants, while granting them the independence they require and deserve.
